Where do people gamble the most around the world?

In the world, gambling is very popular. On average, 26% of people on Earth have spent time in this way at least once in their lives. Lotteries, scratch cards, casinos, cards and sports betting are the most common forms of gambling. But the online gambling industry is growing the fastest. In 2022, it totaled $249 billion and is expected to reach $263.3 billion by the end of 2024. However, player activity and their contribution to these figures varies from country to country.

USA:58 million players

With a record number of winnings per year, the United States is the most involved country in gambling. 85% of American adults have gambled at least once, and about 40% regularly visit land-based casinos.

It is also home to the largest number of gambling establishments in the entire country, over 2,000 of which are the largest in the world.

Germany: 29 million people play soccer

Germany’s gambling industry is one of the fastest growing in Europe. 21.6% of Germans regularly participate in lotteries and 24.2% have bet on sports at least once in the last 12 months. As a result of the legalization of gambling and the introduction of new laws regulating the sector, online casinos are also gaining momentum in the country.

Germany’s gambling industry is expected to reach €3.3 billion by 2024. Germans, like people around the world, often play slots, but they play card games such as blackjack and baccarat the most.h

Canada: 19.3 million people play

Since Canada has legalized casinos since 1999, interest in gambling has grown steadily. Today, 60% of Canadian adults gamble at casinos on a monthly basis. Each year, more than 19.3 million active gamblers spend over $4 billion at online casinos and $16 billion at local establishments.

Local legislation is loyal to the industry, which is another interesting fact. For example, no taxes are levied by the Canadian government on gambling winnings. Only professional players who make money from it are left out.
